LLCE Literature and Cinema (Final Year)

The play by famous American playwright Arthur Miller, entitled Death of a Salesman, published in 1949, questions the American Dream of prosperity through the eyes of the traveling salesman Willy Loman and his family. Each member of the Loman family has a different perspective on what the American Dream is, and at the end of Act 2, Willy and his eldest son Biff clash dramatically and emotionally on the subject.

Final-year students were asked to interpret Biff’s famous monologue, in which he contrasts his vision of life with that of his father. You will find excellent performances by Mae Lucas and Evane Tardif, who alternate in playing the roles of the father (Willy) and the son (Biff). Enjoy!
